今年は45周年、つまり45年前にマレーシアから独立したということだ。
先月あたりから、街には国旗が溢れお祝いムードだった。

そして当日は、式典があり、パレードや花火が行われた。
高空から降りてくるパラシュート隊の人たち。
軍や警察、企業など人たちの行進。
政府の高官達の前での歌や踊りのショー。 戦闘機のデモ。
極めつけは、戦車の行進。国中を練りまわる。
轟音がしたのでびっくりして窓の外を見ると、うちのコンドの前の通りにまでやってきていた。
まあ、なんというか、すごい国だと思った、いろんな意味で。

This year marks 45th anniversary, that is, the country became independent from Malaysia 45 years ago. The whole city has being full of national flags and in a celebratory mood.
On the day, the ceremony, parade, and fireworks were held. Troops parachuting down from high altitude. Parade of army, police officers, and people from local companies. Dramatic show full of dance and songs before the administration officials. Demonstration of battle planes. High point was the parade of tanks throughout the country. When I heard booming roar and saw outside the window, the tanks were coming to the street before our condo.
After dark, the ceremony finished with lavish fireworks shot from the roof of the buildings and the river.
Well... I thought it's really quite a country in many ways...
